“Michelin, the only CAC40 company with its headquarters outside the Paris region, in Clermont-Ferrand, sometimes needs a private air commercial service to receive international delegations or to transport its executives. I don’t think we are in the context of a football star who appears on social networks! Thursday evening, before the National Assembly, the Minister Delegate for Transport Clément Beaune repeated it: there is no question of banning private jet flights in France, as defended by environmentalists on the occasion of the parliamentary day reserved for them.

“The general ban gives a good conscience but does not advance the ecological transition in practice”, he asserted, adding that the number of cases which would justify an exemption would be too numerous. But, “symbols, in a moment of collective effort, matter,” he added. The government therefore intends to strengthen the taxation of jets next year, said Clément Beaune. After raising “by 70% the tax on private aviation fuel” in the last finance law, the idea is now to tax leased aircraft. It would not be a question of figures or rates, but of widening the perimeter.
