“Cambridge Spikers clinch victory at Maidstone Q Leaf Cup Youth Football Tournament”

Maidstone – The second Q Leaf Cup Youth Football Tournament organized by the Maidstone Malayali Association has come to an end. The Cambridge Spikers team emerged victorious in front of a packed crowd and fans at the Maidstone Gallagher Stadium on May 6. Spikers faced Maid Stone United in the final. In the final, Cambridge became champions through penalty shootout. The Gallagher Stadium witnessed brilliant performances in the championship, which saw ten teams from all over the UK compete.

The Q Leaf Cup was presented to the champions Cambridge Spikers by Jinu Mathews, owner of Q Leaf Care, who is also the main sponsor of MMA. The prize money of £1000 for the champions was presented by Sarathi Shajan Abraham of Pinnacle Financial Solutions Limited who sponsored the first prize. Ashford South Willsboro councilor-elect Sojan Joseph presented the medals to the winners.

MMA President Baiju Daniel presented the runners-up trophy to Maid Stone United, who lost in a closely contested match, the prize money of £500 was presented by Ashford MOT Center owner Jose Lewis and the medals were presented by MMA Secretary Baiju Thangachan.

MMA Treasurer Varghese Scaria and committee members Biju Bahanan, Jisna AB and Shalini Rofin distributed the prize money, trophy and medals to the third runners-up Tunbridge Wells Sports Land Academy.

Southend Malayali Football Club, who finished fourth, were presented with prize money, trophies and medals by Slice of Spice driver Rofin Francis and MMA committee members Joshi Joseph and Libby Philip. Maid Stone United player Akshar Santhosh, who scored 15 goals in the tournament, was presented with the award by Q Leaf Care captain Jinu Mathews along with MMA Treasurer Varghese Scaria. Participating teams, spectators and Gallagher Stadium officials praised MMA’s organizational excellence and tournament quality.

Paul John & Company Solicitors and Kerala Spices and South Indian Restaurant were the sponsors of the tournament. To all sponsors, all teams, various persons who supported the tournament, those who handled media, food, decoration etc., referees, Gallagher Stadium officials, participants and supporters from MMA and other associations including KCA, MMA President Baiju Daniel, Secretary Baiju Thankachan, Sports Coordinators Biju Bahanan and Shaijn Thomas. Treasurer Varghese Skaria also expressed his thanks.
