Some 30 ports in British Columbia, including Vancouver, are affected by this labor dispute that began last Saturday, following several months of negotiations.

One-third of all goods entering Canada from outside the continent pass through the Port of Vancouver, the fourth-largest port in North America.

If the trend continues, it might have huge consequences for the Canadian economy as well as the supply chain.

Despite the strike of the 7,000 workers responsible for loading and unloading cargo ships, the loading and transshipment of grain and cruise ships are maintained.

There is still no question of a special law for the moment.

Federal Labor Minister Seamus O’Regan Jr said in a Twitter post: “Collective bargaining is hard work, but that’s how you get the best deals.”
