KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Commerce has imposed a ban on cosmetics containing the chemical compound Lilial, which is used to provide fragrance. The ban on importing, selling and buying these was issued by Minister of Commerce and Industry Masin Al Nahed. This compound has been shown to cause cancer

The action comes following the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) put it on the ‘cancer’ list. Supervision teams will be sent to check the safety of the products currently available in the market. Lilial is a chemical compound commonly used as a fragrance in cosmetics and laundry detergents.

The European Union banned the use of Lilian in cosmetics following it was found to cause cancer and harm fertility.
