Candlemas and free pancakes for the residents of Rieme

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Today is Candlemas, and that means baking pancakes for a lot of people. That use goes back centuries. Pancakes refer to the sun with their color and shape, which is why we enjoy the delicacy en masse on February 2

In Rieme, near Evergem, the Street Ambassadors are holding a large pancake bake today during their monthly Buurtcafé. All residents of Rieme can come and eat pancakes in the parish hall De Kring, and for the less mobile people the Street Ambassadors deliver to their homes. The Street Ambassadors want to strengthen social connections in the villages of Meetjesland with ALL their activities. There’s no better way than eating a pancake together on Candlemas!
