“The future of French cinema on the red carpet,” announced the announcer when they climbed the steps. This Wednesday evening, the actors Karim LeklouAnthony Bajon, Deborah GloryRabah Naït Oufella, Agathe RousselleAnamaria Vartolomei, Noée AbitaLucia Zhang and Jordan camelliaaccompanied by directors Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet, Maïmouna Doucouré, Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh, appeared together at the screening of “Elvis” by Baz Luhrmann. They were brought together by Unifrance, the organization in charge of promoting French cinema abroad, as part of the “10 to watch” event.
They were not ten, but thirteen because the operation might not take place normally last year because of health restrictions: certain actors and directors of the previous “promotion” therefore joined those of the new one. In any case, all of them were chosen by a jury made up of four film critics from the professional press. “Not all French films are exported, so the idea of 10 to watch is to promote young talents on the international scene,” explains Daniela Elstner, Managing Director of Unifrance.
A busy schedule
Among these “chosen ones”, all have a busy schedule. To recite nobody else but them, Anamaria Vartolomei will soon turn in “The Empire” by Bruno Dumont, where she replaces Adèle Haenel, who will not play in the film in the end. Anthony Bajon, he is preparing to give the reply to Benoît Poelvoorde in “Maldoror”, a feature film by Fabrice Du Welz on the Marc Dutroux affair. The one who will also be showing the excellent “Athena” by Romain Gavras on Netflix this fall, is preparing to make his first short film and is currently writing a film.
As for Karim Leklou, who caused a sensation at Cannes with “Goutte d’or” by Clément Cogitore, he has shot three films which will be released in the coming months (the fantastic thriller “Vincent must die” by Stephan Castang and the dramas “C is my man” by Guillaume Bureau and “Temps mort” by Ève Duchemin). In early 2023, he will also begin filming season 3 of the “Hippocrates” series.
