That is why these water jewels are indispensable as tourism magnets from the Austrian landscape. We have more than 60 larger lakes in an impressive diversity in Austria. With this photo competition, we want to draw attention to our lakes as an important part of our Austrian cultural and natural landscape.”

austria boasts an astonishing number of standing waters, with approximately 25,000 in total, including 62 larger lakes exceeding 50 hectares. Carinthia, with its renowned Wörthersee, Millstätter See, and Ossiacher see, is a notably prominent region. The Salzkammergut, featuring the iconic Wolfgangsee and Traunsee, alongside Burgenland’s cross-border Neusiedler see, are also celebrated as national water treasures.
