WASHINGTON — Josiah Gray pitched six strong innings, Joey Meneses had four hits and the Washington Nationals finally cooled the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 in a game delayed nearly 2 1/2 hours by rain on Sunday.
Jeimer Candelario and Victor Robles each had early doubles for Washington, which had lost three in a row. Luis Garcia gave up a two-run single in the second and every Nationals starter had at least one hit.

In Italy, scientists have developed an edible battery that might pave the way for unmanageable electronic medical devices. Even more amazing, this battery is made from basic compounds found in almonds and capers – so the experts didn’t need to create an entirely new product to make this battery work.

The use of ingestible devices in the medical field does not yet exist. However, currently unmanageable devices are used. They require surgery in case something goes wrong and they cannot be removed easily. This is where an edible battery might be very useful because the latter is made from compounds that the body can easily assimilate. The electrodes are composed of riboflavin, a vitamin found in almonds, and quercetin, a food supplement present in particular in capers.
Besides for medical devices like cameras and other biosensors, an edible battery might also be used to power food quality analysis equipment or even soft robotics devices.
A coming revolution in the medical industry?
A prototype of this battery is described in the paper published by the scientists in Advanced Materials. This is currently rechargeable and operates at 0.65V. Unfortunately, it still needs to be recharged outside the human body. Anyway, the development of this prototype is very exciting by the mere promise of such technology. If this battery can really be digested without any problem and if researchers manage to recharge it inside the body, that might revolutionize medical devices and their use.
Italian experts explain that this is the very first rechargeable and edible battery in the world. And while it most likely won’t be the last, this innovation might inspire other teams to develop similar options — or even find new ways to engineer edible batteries from compounds found in food.

After a 2022 financial year marked by a loss of half a million francs, Radio Friborg is restructuring. Managing Director Thierry Savary will step down at the end of October, while remaining with the company. The radio will also eliminate 3.6 positions. In a press release issued Monday morning, the Friborg media questioned the consequences linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, the lack of support from the cantonal public authorities and the current economic crisis to explain a financially complicated year 2022. .
“This situation has led to a 30% drop in on the national market, while the volume of regional has reached our budget”, specifies the general manager of Radio Fribourg, Thierry Savary. “This situation forced the board of directors to take drastic measures (note: last year), to limit losses. The management therefore had to resolve to reduce or even eliminate positions in several sectors, ”explains the management of Radio Fribourg.
“In 2022, our loss reached 500,000 francs,” reveals Thierry Savary, interviewed by the Keystone-ATS press agency. To fill this gap, Radio Friborg “dismissed a collaborator at the level of the French-speaking program and did not fill two other positions, one within the German-speaking program, the other at the level of central services.” A 60% was also saved, several employees having agreed to reduce their working hours. These decisions, combined with the support of a shareholder, made it possible to end the 2022 financial year in equilibrium, without loss.

At the same time, a major restructuring took place within the management circles of the company, with the creation of a common management board of four people between RadioFr., MEDIAparc SA and Mediapub SA. Markus Baumer will take over the general management of MediaPub SA and RadioFr. next November 1.
