Hublot x Takashi Murakami: watchmaking, contemporary and digital art
Hublot and Takashi Murakami continue their creative dialogue through a fourth collaboration. Their 13 new timepieces and as many NFTs merge watchmaking innovation and contemporary art. Murakami’s signature smiling flower radiates, in harmony with Hublot’s expertise.
For the new page in their shared history, Hublot and Murakami wanted to promote buyers and collectors of their previous editions of NFTs and watches. Thus, 12 Classic Fusion watches were put up for sale online on the Hublot site, accessible only to owners of an NFT from the 3e collaboration between Hublot and Murakami, elevating the art of fine watchmaking and digital art to a level rarely achieved. “During our partnership with Takashi Murakami, we weave a story that connects all the works we create together, digital pieces like timepieces. True to its history, Hublot is once once more “First, Unique and Different” in its way of rewarding its collectors, offering them privileged access to the ownership and trade of unique artistic pieces. Hublot Loves Art ! » stated Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot.
“When announcing my collaboration with Hublot, we said that new forms of artistic expression would be embraced. After creating all of these timepieces and digital artworks together, we are now imagining new ways to access and exchange contemporary art.” pointed out Takashi Murakami
These 12 watches, like the 12 hours on the dial, are each associated with a different color and linked to an NFT. These NFTs are inspired by video games and the Japanese audiovisual landscape of the 1970s, like the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black – the first collaboration presented in January 2021. Collectors will have one year to trade the twelve unique NFTs on the OpenSea platform. At the end of this period, in April 2024, only the collector who has succeeded in collecting the 12 NFTs will have the opportunity to acquire the thirteenth watch, the most coveted: the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow. A true masterpiece, it reinterprets Murakami’s emblem. The 12 petals of the flower display a spectacular gradation of rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites and topazes. An ingenious ball bearing system developed in the Hublot Ateliers creates a rainbow spectacle by rotating the colored petals. They contrast with the 45mm black ceramic case for a striking effect.
If no one manages to collect the twelve NFTs, Hublot will auction the timepiece to raise funds for charity.
The CAC 40 index reached 7,403.67 points around 3:45 p.m., beating its previous all-time high of March 6. In the meantime, it was severely shaken by the crisis which hit the banks, even falling below the 6,800 point threshold on March 20.
The CAC 40 then recovered nearly 9%. Since the start of the year, the index has gained more than 14%.
Among the companies in the index, bank stocks have not recouped the losses they suffered on the sidelines of the bankruptcy of the American bank Silicon Valley Bank and the takeover of Credit Suisse by its Swiss rival. UBS.
The Societe Generale share thus remains nearly 20% below its level at the start of March, that of BNP Paribas remaining down 10% and that of Crédit Agricole 5%.
The banking crisis, if it has caused a wind of panic to blow through the markets, is making central banks more sensitive to the economic risks of their monetary policy, investors hope.
They now believe that they will raise their key rates a little less than expected, the main tool for fighting inflation by raising the cost of credit in the economy.
If the European Central Bank (ECB) is rigid and still plans to raise its key rates, investors believe that it is very likely that the American central bank (Fed) will carry out a final hike in its rates in May, before leaving them around 5%.
The latest statistics showing a slowdown in economic activity and a drop in job creation in the United States reinforce this hypothesis.
“The March inflation data due this week will no doubt help to better weigh the possibility of a change of course as soon as” the next meeting of the Fed’s monetary policy committee, according to economist Véronique RichesFlores, from the Cabinet RichesFlores.
Inflation is slowing in the euro zone and the United States, thanks in particular to the drop in energy prices for several months, but it still remains very high, well above the 2% target of the Fed and the ECB.
Inflation “remains high and uncertainty regarding its development has increased”, requiring “a robust strategy for the coming period”, said ECB President Christine Lagarde at the end of March.
The risk of recession in the euro zone this year has receded a little, estimates the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its spring economic forecast published on Tuesday.
