Several questions relating to untimely power cuts in Conakry were put to the Director General of Electricity of Guinea (EDG) on Monday during the press conference he hosted in the premises of his management.
According to him, these cuts are due to work requested by partner companies from EDG on the network, but also local breakdowns such as those of transformers.
“Companies working on electrification projects are requesting cuts to speed up work before the winter season. And in our turn, we have to grant them these cuts to allow them to connect the old network. Because these are the interconnected networks. This is what allows us to relieve the various networks a little today”, he explains, before continuing:
“But the biggest problem we currently have is with the Wanindara-Cobayah departure. This starting line today is very busy, it is almost 13 to 16 megawatts. While the cables that are installed must not go more than 12 megawatts maximum. If we look at the statistics we have at our level, we will say that we don’t have enough cuts. Because we are around 90% to 95% food…”
Other reasons for these electrical load shedding mentioned by the boss of EDG is the breakdowns at the level of the transformers.
“There are areas where a transformer breaks down and the time for the agents to have the information and they come to remove this transformer, people will say that we have been doing days without having power. And that’s just local outages. In normal times, outages for breakdowns are very small, they are not even 5%. But the cuts due to the works are around 15%. So, which means that we have a feed rate of around 90, 95% on certain departures, ”he mentioned.
