Mexican authorities have rescued 31 migrants who were kidnapped by bus-ranching gunmen in Mexico over the weekend.
C. Roubini Chinnapa9 CTC, Vatican News
Gunmen hijacked a bus of migrants on Saturday on the highway between the border cities of Reynosa and Matamoros in Tamaulipas state. After forcing thirty-six people out, thirty-one of them were dragged at gunpoint into five waiting cars.
Migrants from Venezuela, Colombia, Honduras, Ecuador and Mexico were abducted. The Mexican government launched an extensive search and rescue operation involving 650 police, soldiers and the National Guard. The search was intensified with the use of drones, trained search dogs, communication experts through cellular phones and other surveillance equipment.
It was not said how the migrants were rescued, but the possibility that the kidnappers fled in the face of the speed of such a comprehensive investigation cannot be ruled out. Their plan to extort ransom money from their relatives failed.
On Monday, another bus heading to Matamoros was intercepted by gunmen and five people were kidnapped and later rescued by the National Guard. Two rival factions of the Gulf drug cartel are now battling for control across the troubled region. In 2019, 22 people were caught from a bus in this region. They were never seen once more. Nine years ago, seventy-two Central and South American migrants were massacred for refusing to work for the Zetas drug cartel.

Kim Si-won said, “It will soon be 6 years since I started broadcasting, and in fact, I was planning to broadcast the 6th anniversary and last broadcast on May 1st.” He added, “I think some people expected it to a certain extent because I saw a lot of people who were having a hard time.” He started speaking.
He continued, “It’s funny to say that it’s the last broadcast, and I think it’s ridiculous to try to decide the end, but it ended like this. Due to the overlapping reasons, too many things happened at once, so I think I was a little tired. I was with people I was once good with.” “I think it was very difficult to create a repetitive situation where people I was thankful for later ended up blaming me,” he said.
He said, “(Still, I’m not going to explain the reason for my retirement). I just want to remember the good things and quit like that. I think this will be my last letter and my last notice. I just want to express my gratitude to everyone and leave now.” “And it will never come back,” he emphasized.
He added, “There were many times when I mightn’t make up my mind, and I was so thankful and grateful to everyone who always gave me courage and made me know my worth.”
