Early Meal Times and Cardiovascular Health: Insights from a Large-Scale Study
2024-01-02 07:05:00
Eating your first and last meal of the day early would help prevent the risk of cardiovascular disease according to a large-scale study published in December and led by the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Agriculture. environment, the Barcelona Global Health Institute, Inserm and Sorbonne Paris Nord University.
The results come from the analysis of data from a large panel of participants followed for 13 years.
OBSERVATION WORK
More than 103,000 volunteers, the majority women, shared their eating habits between 2009 and 2022. If it seems certain that the quality of the diet – varied and balanced, limiting red meat – has an influence on health, this study suggests that the time at which the meal is taken also has an impact, recommending that we eat early. Thus, a breakfast at 9 a.m. rather than 8 a.m. would increase the risk of having cardiovascular problems by 6%, and a dinner at 9 p.m. would increase the risk of cerebrovascular disease (stroke type) by 28% compared to at 20 hours.
This work also reports that extending the duration of the nighttime fast, without skipping breakfast, might be beneficial for the prevention of these diseases. Indeed, according to the researchers, in addition to light, “daily cycles of eating and fasting synchronize peripheral circadian clocks, involved in the regulation of the cardiovascular system”.
These results will nevertheless need to be replicated in other large-scale panels in order to corroborate this link between the timing of meals and better cardiometabolic health.

Liverpool extends lead: Klopp loses wedding ring and finds “friend for life”
January 2, 2024, 7:02 a.m
Jürgen Klopp celebrates – and scares himself. After the victory, in which Liverpool FC extends its lead in the table, the coach loses his wedding ring. His personal hero of the evening is not a player, but a cameraman.
Liverpool FC has extended its lead in the Premier League thanks to an anniversary goal from Mohamed Salah. Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team achieved a 4-2 (0-0) home win once morest Newcastle United in the English football championship and is now three points ahead of pursuers Aston Villa.
After Salah initially missed a penalty in the 22nd minute, the striker from Egypt scored 1-0 in the 49th minute. For the 31-year-old it was the 150th Premier League goal for the Reds. After former Dortmund player Alexander Isaak’s equalizer (54th), Curtis Jones (74th) and Cody Gakpo (78th) put Liverpool back in the lead. Sven Botman (81′) only managed to score the next goal for Newcastle before the outstanding Salah (86′) made the final score 4-2 with a penalty kick. Liverpool missed numerous chances to score in a dominant game.
“Huge shock”
For Klopp, the real drama happened following the game – he lost his wedding ring while celebrating. However, as the AP news agency reported, an attentive cameraman spotted the ring in the middle of the field. Klopp reacted with relief to the quick find in front of the Sky Sports TV camera – and kissed the piece of jewelry. “I had a huge shock. But he’s back,” said the 56-year-old, calling the cameraman a “friend for life.”
After the final whistle, Klopp congratulated his players on the pitch and then went to the fans to applaud. He noticed that the ring was missing. His immediate search of the grass around his location was unsuccessful, although Klopp also asked a steward to help him.
Only the cameraman released the coach from his desperate situation. “Oh my God, that would have been really terrible,” said Klopp. “I lost him once in my life – I needed a professional diver because it was in the sea,” Klopp reported. “I’ve been grateful to the man all my life,” said Klopp. “Every now and then, when I lose a kilo or two, it no longer fits.”
