A new study presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Barcelona found that people with atrial fibrillation suffer from an average of five other diseases. These often include high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, heart failure, obesity and chronic kidney disease. These additional diseases significantly reduce the risk of survival, and 75 percent of patients have to take at least five different drugs.
A total of 30 people suffering from atrial fibrillation and at least two other diseases were interviewed for the study. They came from various European countries such as Belgium, Spain and Greece, were 73 years old on average and 37 percent were female. High blood pressure was registered as the most common disease, followed by high cholesterol, obesity, hypothyroidism and diabetes.
During the interviews, those questioned emphasized that communication between their GPs and the hospitals should be improved. Some reported on various appointments in different institutions and their frustration regarding it. Also, while most were aware of the links between AF and other health conditions, they would have liked more information regarding lifestyle changes to reduce health problems. The findings should also flow into a new type of software for better early detection of atrial fibrillation.

A passenger documented the moment a wing caught fire on American Airlines Flight 2228, heading from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Thursday night.
“We were taking off as usual, when the wheels go up we feel a little bump. And suddenly we hear an explosion,” said Frankie Liggington.
“Nobody knows what’s going on, so the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is that the plane is going to explode. So everyone is grabbing their bags and trying to run away and run down the aisle,” she added.
An American Airlines spokesperson told Channel 9 that the plane had a mechanical problem, and the cause of the fire was unclear.
