Vienna (OTS) – What was previously only available to commercial enterprises is now also available to non-profit organizations. The energy cost subsidy for the non-profit sector approved by the federal government last year provides an important relief measure for the country’s aid institutions, which have come under pressure due to rising prices. A total of up to 140 million euros is available for this purpose. Retroactive applications for 2022 are possible from today until June 30th.
“From emergency aid in the event of severe weather disasters to research into rare diseases and support for those affected by poverty to animal and climate protection, the non-profit associations in this country are an indispensable support of society. The energy cost subsidy helps them to cushion the increased energy costs so that they can continue to help sustainably in the future without making any compromises,” emphasizes Ruth Williams, Managing Director of the Fundraising Association Austria.
The government has provided a total of 140 million euros for this relief step. Applications have been open since January 22nd www.ekz-npo.at possible – initially retroactively for the year 2022. The application for the year 2023 then runs from July 1st to the end of 2024.
Access to the energy cost subsidy is part of a series of groundbreaking measures to promote the third sector in Austria. The Non-Profit Reform Act, which came into force at the beginning of the year, brings relief, less bureaucracy and fair conditions for local NPOs when it comes to donations. Ruth Williams: “According to the Ministry of Finance’s estimates, seven times as many institutions will be eligible to claim the donation tax deduction in the future. To provide an additional incentive for over 2 million donors!”

Weather: Windy but mild weather to start the week
It must be said that storm Isha, which blew across the British Isles, was felt right here (while waiting for storm Jocelyne?), with temperatures skyrocketing and some heavy downpours. “We are coming back under the influence of an ocean current which will settle in here,” warns the meteorologist.
On the menu for the week, we will therefore have to count on rain, wind, and very mild temperatures for the season. “This Monday morning, we observed 11.95 degrees in Uccle, which is five to six degrees above seasonal norms. The contrast is impressive compared to recent days. The mercury actually fell to -6.8 degrees in Uccle during this episode. If the cold was not extreme, we had not measured this much snow since March 2013.”

And then ? “For the end of January and the beginning of February, we will still have to count on this mildness and this humid weather. We don’t expect too much precipitation, but you should always have an umbrella with you, he believes. We will experience autumnal conditions rather than wintery ones with temperatures above seasonal norms. It might be a little cooler and drier this weekend, but nothing unusual for the season.”
In terms of seasonal models, we do not see any further cooling between now and the end of meteorological winter on February 29. “The ocean flow is expected to continue, and models predict a positive anomaly around 0.5 degrees and wetter than average weather. I don’t think we will see a new episode of cold or snow, or only on the heights of the country,” concludes Pascal Mormal.
