Brussels Traffic Enforcement: New Radars and Lidars Locations Revealed
2023-12-22 18:12:00
Like every Thursday, the Brussels Lidars have been moved. They will remain in place until December 28, in addition to fixed radars.
On the outskirts of Brussels, the section radars are operating at full capacity: three new repression devices will arrive
We find a repressive system in the Cinquantenaire tunnel, towards Montgomery. In Ixelles, a Lidar is placed on avenue de la Couronne
Further north, in Ganshoren, Avenue Démosthène Poplimont stands out. In Schaerbeek, those who do not respect zone 30 will be fined on Avenue Voltaire.
To the south, avenue Albert in Forest, a radar has been set up on avenue Albert at the Berkendael tram stop. Finally, a Lidar was placed on the Herrmann-Debroux viaduct. A piece of advice: respect the speed limits in all circumstances.

Independent National Electoral Commission (Céni) Reveals First Trends of 2023 DRC Vote at Bosolo Center in Kinshasa
2023-12-22 22:39:03
It was on December 22, 2023 that the Independent National Electoral Commission (Céni) began to reveal the first trends of the vote which began on December 20 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). An operation carried out in “Bosolo”, a large ephemeral center located in Kinshasa.

From our special correspondent in Kinshasa,
« A Céni of world standard which imprints a democratic culture. » In the corridors of the Athénée de la Gombe school and cultural complex, in Kinshasa, the Independent National Electoral Commission (Céni) is promoting it. “ Inclusion, transparency, independence, impartiality, accountability, professionalism »: these are the key words that this institution, much criticized in the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC), would like to see attached to the ballot which took place on December 20 and 21, 2023.

To strengthen the image of these partial presidential, legislative, provincial and municipal elections, the Céni has notably installed a large ephemeral center for publishing the results, called “Bosolo”.

Inside this immense marquee, three giant screens sit at the back of a space lined with carpets and lit by bluish spotlights. This is where the scores of the 182 constituencies in the DRC – minus those of Rutshuru, Masisi and Kwamouth where it was not possible to vote due to insecurity – must be revealed.
Merlin Kazadi, who manages Bosolo’s logistics, explains: “ First, this center is an instrument of transparency. And secondly, it is an instrument to bring back all the stakeholders in the electoral process. Here you have the media, international organizations, international, national and local observers. This center is to bring everyone together, so that everyone participates. »
« This is the center of truth at the polls »
The premises are designed to accommodate up to 500 people, with a large stage. At 9 p.m., Denis Kadima, the boss of Céni, goes up there, accompanied by part of his team. “ “Bosolo”, in Lingala, means “truth”. So this is the “truth” center here. But, in reality, it is the center of the truth of the ballot boxhe says. The goal of this center is to come together to have election evenings during which the results will be announced. ».

Denis Kadima concludes: I have heard some people talk regarding chaotic elections. We do not consider these elections to be chaotic. We consider that time is not our ally, we have given the best of ourselves. The goal was not to seek perfection in order to be applauded. The goal was to allow Congolese people to participate in an open, competitive, democratic and credible process. […] If some people see a glass half empty, we see a glass three-quarters full. »
At 9:20 p.m., the very first ones appear on the screen. The start of a new long process for the Céni and its agents.

Linus Straßer’s Top Ten Finish in Madonna di Campiglio Night Slalom
2023-12-22 22:38:00
Linus Straßer also achieved a top ten placement in the tight and atmospheric night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio. The World Cup ninth-place finisher from Munich finished ninth on the icy Miramonti slope before the short World Cup Christmas break, as he did in Gurgl/Austria.
After a weaker first run and a good second run, Straßer ended up 0.64 seconds behind winner Marco Schwarz (Austria), who thus took first place in the overall World Cup from Swiss Marco Odermatt. Odermatt does not compete in the slalom.
“It would have been entirely possible to finish on the podium,” said Straßer, “but the slope here is merciless.”
Two days before Christmas Eve, the Frenchman with the apt name Clement Noel (+0.25) came second ahead of the Brit Dave Ryding (+0.39), who raced onto the podium from 15th place. Straßer would have been able to take third place just a quarter of a second less – a podium place was “only a matter of time,” he said in the “BR”.
Despite a strong performance: Noel gives up victory
Holzmann and Tremmel fall back
Sebastian Holzmann, fifth in the World Championships, fell from 18th to 27th place following a weak second round. “There were some uncertainties. I’m not satisfied at all. That was unclean and sloppy,” he complained. Anton Tremmel (+1.58) came 21st, Fabian Himmelsbach (Sonthofen) was eliminated in the first round.
The next World Cup races are downhill and super-G on the Stelvio in Bormio on December 28th and 29th (live on Eurosport 1 and at discovery+)
