X Platform: New Department in Austin, Texas to Combat Sexual Assault Content

The X platform announced the establishment of a department in Austin, Texas, dedicated to combating content related to the sexual assault of minors, a topic to which American legislators attach special importance.
The initial goal of the “Center of Excellence in Security” will be to employ “100 moderators” who will focus mainly on this type of posting, as well as on other violations of the rules of the social network, according to what Joe Benarroch, Director of Operations at X, said on Saturday.
“X does not have a child-focused business, but it is important that we make these investments to prevent criminals from using our platform for any type of distribution or handling of content related to the sexual abuse of minors,” Benarroch stressed.
The company, which Elon Musk bought at the end of 2022, published a statement on Friday regarding its efforts in this field, saying that it is “determined to make X an inhospitable place for those seeking to exploit minors.”
Benarroch also mentioned that children under the age of 13 cannot open an account, while older minors are subject to more stringent rules than adults regarding data confidentiality, and are not targeted with ads.
These announcements come ahead of a major hearing in the US Senate on Wednesday, titled “Technology Giants and the Online Child Sexual Abuse Crisis.”
