Hinda Sabry, a leading star in Arabic cinema and television, is set to return to Ramadan dramas with the series “Mana’a” (Immunity), marking her first television appearance in four years. The acclaimed actress revealed she was drawn to the project by the opportunity to portray a character far removed from the traditionally idealized roles often seen in Egyptian television, embracing a nuanced portrayal with shades of darkness.
In a recent interview with Youm7, Sabry explained her desire to move away from simplistic narratives and explore the complexities of human nature. “I felt a need to present a character who isn’t perfect and possesses a degree of malice,” she stated. “These characters are incredibly appealing to actors because they offer a wealth of depth and are often far removed from our own personalities. The audience enjoys witnessing these multifaceted characters in drama, as drama’s role, since the days of the Greeks, has been to provide catharsis – to present both good and evil, ultimately with good prevailing.”
Sabry’s return to the compact screen comes after a deliberate period of selective participation. Since 2017, she has appeared in only three Ramadan series, each making a significant impact: “Halawet El Donia” (Sweetness of the World) in 2017, the espionage thriller “Hegmet Mertelda” (The Return) in 2021, and now “Mana’a” in 2026. This careful approach reflects her commitment to quality and meaningful storytelling.
“Mana’a” promises a departure for Sabry, venturing into a new genre of popular drama. The series is set within the working-class district of Al-Batinya, spanning the 1970s and 1980s. The story follows the transformation of Sabry’s character, “Gharam,” from a vulnerable widow whose husband is killed during involvement in illicit trade, into a resilient woman determined to protect her family. The narrative delves into the world of drug trafficking and social conflicts, while also exploring the concept of psychological immunity in the face of adversity.
The cast of “Mana’a” also includes Riyad El Khouli, Ahmed Khaled Saleh, Khaled Selim, Maha Nassar, Karim Qassim, Ahmed El Shamy, Emad Safwat, Hoda El Etreby, and Mimi Gamal, alongside a number of guest stars. The series is written by Amr Daly and directed by Hussein El Monbawy, with production by El Motaheda Studios.
Sabry emphasized the challenges inherent in bringing this story to life. According to Nabdn, she acknowledged the numerous obstacles faced during production and expressed gratitude to El Motaheda Studios for their efforts.
Viewers can catch “Mana’a” exclusively on DMC and DMC Drama. The series airs on DMC at 8:30 PM, with reruns at 3:00 AM and 12:45 PM the following day. On DMC Drama, it airs at 12:15 AM, with reruns at 6:30 AM and 10:15 AM.
Hinda Sabry’s willingness to embrace complex and unconventional roles signals a refreshing trend in Arabic television, offering audiences narratives that are both engaging and thought-provoking. As “Mana’a” unfolds, audiences can anticipate a compelling exploration of resilience, survival, and the enduring power of the human spirit.
The upcoming episodes of “Mana’a” are expected to further develop the character of Gharam and reveal the intricate web of relationships and conflicts within the Al-Batinya community. Viewers are encouraged to tune in to DMC and DMC Drama to follow the unfolding drama and witness Sabry’s captivating performance.
