The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, continues after a weekend of intensified law enforcement activity in Tucson, Arizona. While three individuals were briefly detained in connection with the case, authorities confirmed Saturday that no arrests have been made.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant Friday night at a residence less than two miles from Guthrie’s home, prompting a significant police presence. A man and a woman, possibly a mother and son, were detained at the home, according to reporting from NewsNation. A second man was also stopped and questioned while traveling toward the residence. Despite the extensive operation, officials stated they were simply “tracking down leads” in the ongoing investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance.
“Just tracking down leads. No arrests. And no signs of Nancy,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NewsNation’s Brian Entin. The Sheriff’s Department initially stated on social media late Friday night, “Law enforcement activity is underway at a residence near E Orange Grove Rd & N First Ave related to the Guthrie case. Because What we have is a joint investigation, at the request of the FBI – no additional information is currently available.” However, the department later clarified to local affiliate KOLD that the activity stemmed from a lead that ultimately did not result in an arrest.
Previous Detainee Released
This latest development follows a similar situation earlier in the week, where a person of interest – identified as a deliveryman named Carlos – was briefly detained and subsequently released without charges. The investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, which began on February 1st, has involved the FBI and local law enforcement working collaboratively to uncover any information regarding her whereabouts. The FBI has increased the reward for information leading to her location to $100,000, hoping to encourage anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward.
Authorities believe Guthrie was abducted from her Tucson home by a masked individual, as revealed by doorbell camera footage. She was last seen on January 31st and has been without the daily medication she requires. The lack of any sign of life, coupled with the ongoing search, is fueling concerns for her well-being.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI are continuing to pursue all available leads in the case. They are urging anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900 or call 911.
As the investigation enters its third week, authorities remain focused on locating Nancy Guthrie and bringing those responsible for her disappearance to justice. The ongoing search highlights the complexities of the case and the dedication of law enforcement to finding answers.
What comes next is continued investigation and analysis of the evidence collected. Authorities will likely continue to follow up on any new leads that emerge and the public’s assistance remains crucial. Share this story to help spread awareness and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
