old tenancy law
Rep. Tariq Shukri, Deputy Minister of the House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Utilities, confirmed that there is currently no comprehensive project to amend the old residential tenancy law, indicating that all discussions taking place within the parliamentary committee are taking place within the framework of the assessment. The legislative influence has a history of more than 60 years.
The need to formulate a comprehensive legal draft
He explained in the statement that the development of the draft comprehensive law on rent of old homes must be proposed by the government from the beginning for several reasons, the most important of which is that all information related to Egypt’s old residential stock must be provided by the government. and Stats, in addition to the need to have a comprehensive, integrated and integral community dialogue on rent laws that takes into account both sides of the equation, namely landlords and tenants, especially since each of them has rights that must be preserved, which is a a complex relationship that needs to be considered and verified, noting that the government has yet to submit the project to Parliament.
He stressed that Egypt implemented a system of justice and truth during the era of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and it was impossible to enact a law that would overthrow a large part of society or undermine security and social systems.
He added: “The Committee on Housing and Utilities will begin work on assessing the legislative impact of the Building Violation Settlement Act at the start of the fifth session of the House of Representatives, scheduled for October 1 next year, with the Secretary of Housing and Local Development and relevant The authorities were present to determine the results of the implementation of the law, especially since statistics “show little interest among citizens in the settlement process for construction violations”.

An internal issue seems to arise in the ranks of the ND, as 11 MPsof her – including many former ministers – submitted a question to the Minister of Finance K. Hatzidakis on the issue of “red loans”pointing out that “narrow vulnerability criteria leave the majority of borrowers without substantial protection”.
The matter is the subject of discussion in the ranks of the government faction, as several of the signatories have criticized it in the past, and all this at a time when a “Mitsotaki, Karamanli and Samaritan” front is being formed.
The question is co-signed by: Fotini Arabatzi, George Vlachos, Vassilis Yogiakas, Thanasis Davakis, Nikitas Kaklamanis, Anna Karamanli, Theodoros Karaoglou, Christos Boukoros, Evripidis Stylianidis, Maximos Charakopoulos and Marios Salmas.
The deputy of Etoloakarnania – pr. if. Minister Marios Salmas, was asked by “Peloponnisos” for the reasons he participated in this parliamentary initiative and if all this translates, in essence, into an exercise of intra-party opposition to the Government, with him being clear: “Yes, it is a severe criticism of Mr. Hatzidakis, it is not , however, opposition. It is a joint decision, taken by a group that has – if one adds up – 200 years of parliamentary experience, while most of us also have government tenure. We agreed with shared concerns, as the issue tends to the impasse.
Red loans concern more than 2 million of our citizens, i.e. half of Greece. There are now complaints that the Bank is coming to take houses and not paying taxes. These have nothing to do with Social Liberalism, which we advocate. Of course, not all cases are the same. There are those who try to settle pending issues and some who are irresponsible. But in the first case, we are clearly talking about crows coming to take your house!
Mr. Salmas also recalled his earlier exhortations to Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis… “to see the many and not the few”, while “he would consider himself co-responsible if he voted for things that were not dictated by his conscience and above all by the world , who has been electing him for so many years”.

The Member of Parliament of Attica, Giorgos Vlachos, commented to “P”: “The interventions to date, which were evangelized as offering protection to borrowers and guarantors, individuals and small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, have proven to be ineffective.
Debtors are faced with the risk of having their home auctioned off. Of the 90 billion, the debts under management to the companies correspond to 2,271,548 and only 7.2 billion were settled out of court. Therefore, no substantial solution to the serious problem of “red loans” has been given. On the contrary, funds and companies are speculating, reaping exorbitant profits, even tax-free.
In 2023, the profits of the three big companies amounted to about €211 million and had a return on capital of 28.5%, higher than the Banks, but also than any other sector of activity. In closing, Mr. Vlachos pointed out the need to design, immediately, a debt settlement tool with the sole aim of the short and substantial protection of borrowers and guarantors, from confiscations and auctions of their homes and property.

China’s Foreign Ministry said the explosion of thousands of communications devices in Lebanon was a violation of sovereignty and could escalate tensions in the Middle East region.
“We oppose any action that violates Lebanon’s sovereignty and security and express concern over the possible escalation of tensions in the region that may be triggered by this incident,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian said at a press conference in Beijing, China on Thursday (19/9), as reported by Antara, Friday (20/9).
Mass explosions of wireless communication devices known as pagers in several areas of Lebanon on Tuesday (17/9). A total of 12 people including a child were killed in the mass explosions, and nearly 2,800 others were injured, including 200 of them in critical condition.
The incident was followed by the explosion of other communication devices such as protophones (walkie-talkies) on Wednesday (18/9). “We call on the relevant parties to seriously maintain peace and stability in the Middle East,” added Lin Jian.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said at least 20 people were killed and 450 others injured in the second wave of explosions of communications devices. Lebanese media alleged the devices went off after Israel hacked the country’s communications system.
The Lebanese government and Hezbollah both accused Israel of orchestrating the attack. Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah even said the number of pagers used by Hezbollah members was 4,000, implying that Israel deliberately tried to kill 4,000 people.
Meanwhile, local media reported that the exploded protophone units were supplied to Lebanon five months ago, around the same time as the exploded pager units arrived. Hezbollah’s decision to use the pager devices was because the technology was considered the most secure from potential hacking and eavesdropping.
Lebanese security sources said that Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency planted explosives inside pagers used by Hezbollah members months before they exploded. There was no comment from Israel on the pager explosions, but Hezbollah vowed to retaliate against Israel for the blasts.
The pager explosion came amid escalating tensions on the border between Israel and Hezbollah, which have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the start of Tel Aviv’s deadly war on the Gaza Strip. Israel’s attacks on Gaza have killed more than 41,200 people, mostly women and children, following Hamas’s offensive on October 7 last year. (I-2)
