The evacuation of homeless people from the French capital, Paris, has been accelerated. The police have launched a new campaign with the main objective of ensuring security for the Olympics starting from July 26 in Paris.
In several areas of Paris, illegal immigrants have camped out on abandoned buildings and on sidewalks. All of them are being evacuated to Lyon and Marseilles.
Migrants deported from Paris told The New York Times that they had been told they would be housed and fed wherever they were taken, but so far that promise has not been followed through.
Among France’s population of 70 million, the number of immigrants is 7 million. According to a conservative estimate by the authorities, the French government has to spend 40 billion euros every year on illegal immigrants.
New Delhi.-Indian tycoon Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, is celebrating with lavish festivities the wedding of his youngest son, Anant, to Radhika Merchant, the daughter of pharmaceutical industry tycoons.
Previous celebrations have included a European cruise for 1,200 guests, a specially built Hindu temple at the Ambani family’s ancestral home and private performances by R&B star Rihanna and Canadian Justin Bieber.
Asia’s richest man, Indian tycoon Mukesh Ambani, is celebrating his son’s final wedding this weekend, a show of wealth and power in a country experiencing rapid economic growth and plagued by tremendous inequality.
Ambani’s youngest son Anant and his fiancée Radhika Merchant, both 29, are set to marry in a three-day Hindu ceremony in India’s financial capital, Mumbai, on Friday.
Pre-wedding celebrations have already included a three-day gala party in March for 1,500 guests in the state of Gujarat, a cruise for 1,200 guests in the Mediterranean, a specially built Hindu temple and concerts by Rihanna, the Backstreet Boys and Justin Bieber.
This weekend’s celebrations will be set to take a new level with the arrival of celebrities, politicians and businessmen in Mumbai.
Kim and Khloé Kardashian, famous for their influence on social media and for broadcasting their lives on reality shows, arrived at the event on Friday and posted pictures on Instagram stories.
Two former British prime ministers, Conservative Boris Johnson and Labour’s Tony Blair, were also seen at Mumbai airport before the start of the celebrations.
It is not the first wedding organised by Ambani, who is denounced by critics as the “maharaja of modern times” and who inherited a thriving oil, gas and petrochemical industry.

In 2017, she organised a similar ceremony for her daughter, the most expensive wedding ever held in India, reportedly costing $100 million and featuring American singer Beyoncé.
The lavishness of the event has sparked criticism for its contrast with the poverty that exists in the country, the most populous in the world.
India is the world’s fifth-largest economy and one of the most dynamic, but national per capita income is only $1,174; and millions of people are hungry. The country ranked 111th out of 125 countries in the Global Hunger Index in 2023.
Perhaps to preempt criticism, Ambani hosted a banquet for 50,000 people in his hometown of Jamnagar in Gujarat in the first part of the celebrations.
She also organised mass weddings for 52 underprivileged couples near Mumbai and pledged to support “hundreds more such weddings” across the country.
Ambani, 67, heads Reliance Industries, India’s largest company by market capitalization.
The tycoon, born in 1957 and raised in Bombay, has a fortune valued at 123 billion dollars, and is the eleventh richest person in the world, according to the Forbes list.
Ambani is also a close ally of Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was re-elected for a third term in June.
The businessman has spent the past few decades transforming the petrochemical giant he inherited into a global empire with lucrative interests in retail, telecommunications and a cricket team.
Anant Ambani’s fiancée Merchant is the daughter of pharmaceutical tycoons.
Her dresses include custom designs by Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Yves Saint Laurent, she told Vogue magazine.
Another of her garments is printed with a love letter from her fiancé, according to the magazine. “I want to be able to show it to my children and grandchildren and tell them, ‘This is what our love was like,'” she said.
The pre-wedding celebrations began in March with a three-day gala party for 1,500 guests in the state of Gujarat.
Alex Reeds included Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and former US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka.
During the event, American singer Rihanna gave a concert, her first since last year’s Super Bowl. Illusionist David Blaine performed magic tricks.
The festivities also included a visit to the Ambanis’ “animal rescue centre”, which houses exotic mammals, and a specially built Hindu temple complex.
The second leg, in June, consisted of a four-day Mediterranean cruise with 1,200 guests, Merchant told Vogue.
Singer Katy Perry performed at a masked ball in a French castle in Cannes. Backstreet Boys, American rapper Pitbull and DJ David Guetta also provided entertainment.
The cruise ended in the Italian city of Portofino, where tenor Andrea Bocelli offered a serenade in the city square.Clarín.

- In June, US authorities reported 88,612 arrests of people attempting to cross into the US
Detentions of migrants who crossed the southern border of the United States irregularly fell in June 2024 to the lowest level recorded since January 2021, the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) announced on Monday, July 15, which attributed the decline to restrictions imposed on asylum.
In June, U.S. authorities reported 88,612 arrests of people attempting to cross into the U.S. illegally, a 29% reduction compared to last May and a figure similar to that of January 2021, when around 90,000 migrants were detained.
Restrictions, the cause of the decline
On June 5, Joe Biden’s administration imposed a series of changes at the border to prevent – with a few exceptions – most people who cross into the country without authorization from requesting asylum.
Restrictions will no longer apply when the average daily number of arrests remains below 1,500 for a period of seven consecutive days.
Troy Miller, acting director of CBP, said in a statement that recent border security measures “have had a significant impact” on border apprehensions, with the seven-day average dropping by more than 50% from the announcement through the end of the month.
The Border Patrol’s seven-day average has dropped to fewer than 1,900 encounters per day. However, daily arrests at the border still exceed 1,500, so restrictions remain in place.
The number of unaccompanied children also decreased
The number of unaccompanied children encountered by CBP along the southwest border in June 2024, including those who presented themselves at ports of entry without an appointment, decreased by 14% compared to May 2024 and by 28% compared to May 2023.
Unaccompanied minors entering the country are not subject to the new order issued by the government.
Since the presidential order went into effect, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has removed more than 70,000 foreign nationals from more than 170 countries.
The deportation operation has included more than 150 repatriation flights.

Conductor Gustavo Dudamel has been appointed to lead the National Children’s Symphony of Venezuela (SNIV), made up of 169 musicians, for its upcoming performances at four festivals in the United States.
The orchestra will embark on its second international tour on July 25 through August 9, 2024, El Sistema’s press service reported. It will bring a repertoire that seeks to showcase the virtuosity of its musical growth, El Nacional reported.
The executive director of El Sistema, Eduardo Méndez, said that this tour “has to do primarily with the invitation to the youth orchestra festival at Carnegie Hall, where orchestras from various parts of the world participate, aged between 17 and 22 years old.”
“For El Sistema, this represents a showcase to show how its musical methodology has evolved in recent years, since the oldest member of our orchestra is not as old as the youngest member of the established rank. For us at El Sistema, this tour fulfills an important artistic theme,” he added.
The four-city tour will begin with two performances at the monumental Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, under the Citizens of the World concept, which is part of the YOLA International Youth Festival, the National Symphony and Overture Orchestra Festival.
The first concert of the festival will be on Sunday, July 28, with the participation of the YOLA National Overture Orchestra, the YOLA National Symphony Orchestra and members of the National Children’s Symphony of Venezuela, in a side by side, in which they will perform works by composers Okoye, Chaparro, Fernández, Still, Berlioz, Shostakóvich, Hailstork, Desenne and Saint-Saëns, under the direction of maestro Gustavo Dudamel, Kalena Bovell and José Ángel Salazar Marín.
