The Badgers enter the championships with a blend of seasoned champions and rising stars, poised to make a significant impact. Among those to watch is NCAA Indoor weight throw champion Taylor Kesner, looking to add another title to her impressive resume. This year’s team also boasts strong performances in throwing events, freshman talent, and a competitive distance squad, setting the stage for a compelling weekend of competition.
Kesner Aims to Repeat Championship Success
Taylor Kesner, the reigning 2025 NCAA Indoor weight throw champion, is a key athlete for Wisconsin. Her winning throw at the NCAA Championships measured 77-1 ¼ (23.50m), ranking her second all-time in Wisconsin indoor track and field history, according to UWBadgers.com. Last year, Chloe Lindman finished third at the Big Ten Championships in the weight throw with a distance of 73-3 ¼ (22.33m) and placed sixth at the NCAA Championships. Kesner has demonstrated consistent success this indoor season, winning three of the five weight throw competitions she’s entered.
Throwing Powerhouse: Skoraczewski and Lindeque Lead the Way
Nora Skoraczewski and Zonica Lindeque have emerged as significant contributors for the Wisconsin throwers. At the recent Panther Tune-Up in Milwaukee, Skoraczewski won the weight throw with a heave of 66-6 ¼ (20.25m), securing the No. 9 spot in the Wisconsin record book. The sophomore has achieved podium finishes in four of her six meets this season. Lindeque also excelled at the Panther Tune-Up, winning the shot put with a toss of 54-11 ¼ (16.74m), improving her ranking from No. 8 to No. 5 on the UW top-10 list. She has won three of the four shot put competitions she’s participated in this season.
Freshman Aizpurua Makes Immediate Impact
Freshman Luciana Aizpurua has quickly established herself as a force for the Badgers. She has twice entered the Wisconsin record book this season, most recently at the Jarvis Scott Invite, where she ran a personal best of 7.48 seconds in the 60 meters, earning her the No. 5 spot in the indoor record book. Aizpurua is scheduled to compete in both the 60 meters and 200 meters at the Big Ten Championships.
Distance Runners Ready to Compete
Wisconsin will also be represented by a strong contingent of distance runners, including Kylie Finger, Bella Jacobsen, Zaira Malloy-Salgado, Sara Mlodik, and Leané Willemse. Finger and Willemse both achieved UW top-ten marks at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in the 5000 meters. Finger finished first in her heat with a time of 15:50.00, ranking sixth in school history, while Willemse took third in her heat with a personal best of 15:59.41, placing eighth all-time at Wisconsin. Mlodik has also had a successful season, winning the 5000 meters at the Badger Windy City Invite (16:30.73) and finishing second in the 3000 meters at the Penn Elite (9:34.98). Jacobsen won the mile at the Windy City Invite with a personal best of 4:54.26, and Malloy-Salgado finished fifth in the 3000 meters at the Blue Demon Alumni Classic (9:42.49).
Following the Big Ten Championships, Wisconsin will conclude its indoor season at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The team will seem to build on their performances in Indianapolis and carry that momentum into the national competition.
The Big Ten Championships promise to be a showcase of talent, and determination. Fans can follow the Badgers’ progress throughout the weekend and cheer them on as they compete for a conference title. Share your thoughts and support for the team in the comments below.
