A 12-year-old child was found dead at her home in Argentina last Friday (13). Milagros Soto would have died of strangulation following doing the so-called “Desafio do Apagão” – also called “Desafio do Enforcamento” -, in a live with friends.
Reports from friends who saw the video say that the girl tried to remove the rope from her neck when she realized she mightn’t breathe anymore, but she mightn’t and died during the challenge.
The girl’s aunt, Laura Luque, said that she received the link to watch the live broadcast, but did not see it. For her, Milagros would have been encouraged by someone, as she was ridiculed by schoolmates in the past.
“We are inconsolable. We gave her a lot of love. I believe someone encouraged her to do so. We have a lot of doubts regarding everything that happened to her. She was a very smart girl. She suffered a lot from bullying. She even told us that nobody wanted her at school because she was pretty with blonde hair.”

In turn, the Teniente General Pablo Ricchieri school, where the child studied, posted a note to regret the event and say that “supports the student’s family at this terrible time”.
The “Blackout Challenge” is one of the many challenges on TikTok. Supposedly created in 2008, still outside this social network, it makes users choke until they faint. Milagros would have managed to perform twice previously, but would have died the third time, according to information from Jam Press.
She wasn’t the first to die because of this “challenge”. In 2021, a 10-year-old girl from Palermo, Italy, died asphyxiated due to the same situation.
