Barcelona, Spain – March 4, 2026 – nubia unveiled its latest Neo 5 series of smartphones at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2026, headlined by the Neo 5 GT. This device distinguishes itself with a feature rarely seen in the mobile space: an integrated cooling fan. Alongside the GT model, nubia also announced the more accessible Neo 5 and Neo 5 Max, the latter boasting a large 7.5-inch display. The series is aimed at delivering a high-performance gaming experience to younger users, combining powerful hardware with innovative cooling solutions.
The nubia Neo 5 series represents a focused effort to capture the attention of Gen Z and mobile gamers, according to Bai Keke, Vice President of ZTE. “At nubia, our vision is simple but ambitious: to become the tech brand that best resonates with lifestyles of the youth,” Keke stated. “We’re building a diverse product portfolio addressing every scenario of the youth’s lifestyles. By combining gaming-tuned AI with pro-level esports features into a slim, accessible package, nubia Neo series is truly ‘Born to Win’ whether for intense battles or daily tasks.”
Active Cooling for Sustained Performance
The nubia Neo 5 GT addresses a common issue in mobile gaming – overheating – with its unique active cooling system. Unlike most smartphones that rely on passive cooling methods, the Neo 5 GT incorporates a dedicated fan combined with a substantial 29,508mm² cooling area. This system utilizes a Through-Flow Duct Design to direct airflow over both the CPU and the battery, aiming to maintain stable performance during extended gaming sessions. The device is powered by the Cold-Core Trinity, featuring a MediaTek D7400 4nm processor, LPDDR Max 6400Mbps dynamic memory, and the NeoTurbo Engine for optimized resource management. Nubia has also collaborated with game developers to optimize performance, and the Neo 5 GT is officially certified for 120FPS gameplay in Garena Free Fire and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB). It also achieves 90FPS in the graphically demanding Delta Force, with the Mid-Season update.
Console-Like Controls and Immersive Display
Beyond cooling, nubia is emphasizing precision control with the Neo 5 GT’s 550Hz Neo Triggers 5.0, boasting a sub-5.5ms latency and 3049Hz instant touch rate. These triggers are designed to mimic the feel of a dedicated gaming console, providing a responsive and lag-free experience. The Magic Touch 3.0 Algorithm ensures screen responsiveness even with sweaty or wet fingers. The phone features a 6.8-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, aiming for sharp and smooth visuals. An SGS-certified Eye Care feature is included to reduce eye strain during prolonged use.
Battery Life and Design
To support extended gaming sessions, the nubia Neo 5 GT is equipped with a 6210mAh dual-cell battery and supports up to 80W Super Fast Charging (45W PD for the EU market). A Bypass Charging mode allows the phone to be powered directly while gaming, bypassing battery charging to maintain performance. The Neo 5 GT also features a unique flat back design, eliminating the camera bump for a more comfortable grip, and refined rounded corners. Audio is handled by Stereo Dual Speakers with DTS:X® Ultra, complemented by an X-Axis linear motor and Eagle Eye &. Fan RGB lighting that reacts to gameplay.
AI-Powered Gaming Experience
The nubia Neo 5 series incorporates an AI Game Space 5.0, consolidating performance settings and game management into a single interface. The exclusive AI Copilot Demi 2.0 functions as both a coach and companion, providing real-time status updates, answering gameplay questions, and even automatically responding to messages. The series also includes a 50MP AI Triple Rear Camera and a 16MP Front Camera.
The nubia Neo 5 series will initially launch in Southeast Asia this March. Pricing starts at €399 for the Neo 5 GT and €299 for the Neo 5, with both models available in three distinct colors. More information can be found at the ZTE booth (3F30, Hall 3, Fira Gran Via) at MWC Barcelona 2026.
The inclusion of an active cooling fan in a smartphone is a relatively uncommon feature, and it remains to be seen how this impacts real-world performance and user experience. The nubia Neo 5 series’ focus on gaming-specific features and its accessible price point could position it as a compelling option for mobile gamers seeking a performance boost. The global rollout beyond Southeast Asia and independent reviews will be key to assessing the series’ broader market appeal.
