A Russian drone strike on Odesa overnight killed a woman and ignited a fire in a residential building, Ukrainian officials reported Saturday morning. The attack, the latest in a series of escalating strikes targeting Ukrainian infrastructure, comes as international leaders gather in Munich to discuss the ongoing conflict.
Oleg Kiper, the governor of the Odesa region, announced the fatality on Telegram, stating that rescue workers quickly extinguished the blaze. “Unfortunately, a woman was killed in the attack,” he wrote, extending condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones. He added that the blasts from the drone attacks damaged windows in surrounding buildings.
Further east, in the Zaporizhzhia region, at least one person was killed and three others wounded in Russian strikes over the past 24 hours, according to Ivan Fedorov, the regional military chief. He reported that the region endured 655 strikes on 41 settlements during that period.
The attacks coincide with the Munich Security Conference, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is meeting with allies to garner continued support. No Russian officials were invited to the summit. A German government source revealed that Chancellor Friedrich Merz and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed Ukraine, the status of negotiations with Russia, and further military aid to the country on Friday.
Zelenskyy is expected to address the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. Discussions are focused on finding a path toward ending the war, though concrete outcomes remain uncertain.
Meanwhile, five residents of the Odesa region have recently been released from Russian captivity, according to a report from Інтент. Details of their release and conditions of captivity were not immediately available.
