by Luis Mendoza - Sport Editor

WAVERLY, Iowa &amp. GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Colorado College track & field teams are gearing up for a busy Saturday, March 7, with athletes competing at both the Wartburg Indoor Qualifier in Iowa and the start of the outdoor season at Southwestern University in Texas. The split squad approach allows the Tigers to maximize opportunities as they approach the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Seven team members – Josh Williams, Allison Barker, Alison Mueller-Hickler, Abby Goodfried, Clara Lippert, Clara Kirr, and Thalia Goessling – will be in Waverly, Iowa, seeking to qualify for the national indoor meet, scheduled for March 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama. The remaining members of the squad will kick off their outdoor campaign in Georgetown, Texas. Live results from both meets will be available on the CCTigers.com track & field schedule page.

The NCAA Division III National Indoor Championships require a top-20 ranking in each event to qualify. Currently, Rabbit Barnes holds the ninth position in the men’s mile, although Alison Mueller-Hickler is 21st in the 3K. The official selections for the national meet will be announced on Sunday, March 8.

Record-Breaking Performances Fuel Momentum

The Tigers are entering these competitions on the heels of strong performances at the Colorado Last Chance Indoor Qualifier in Boulder, Colorado, on Friday. Mueller-Hickler broke the school record in the indoor 3K for the second time this season, finishing the race in 9:58.88, surpassing her previous record of 10:12.25 set on January 24 in Boulder. She placed fifth in the race, followed by Hannah Falk in ninth with a time of 11:15.95. On the men’s side, Josh Williams set a new school record in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 48.51 seconds, besting his previous mark of 48.95 set last year at the Wartburg Indoor Final Qualifier Meet.

Looking Ahead

Following the indoor national meet, the Colorado College track & field team will shift its focus to the outdoor season, with their next competition scheduled for the Dr. Dan Capioglio Invite at CSU-Pueblo on March 20-21. This meet will provide an opportunity to build on the momentum gained from both the indoor qualifier and the opening outdoor meet.

The Tigers’ participation in both the Wartburg Indoor Qualifier and the Southwestern University meet demonstrates a strategic approach to maximizing their athletes’ opportunities for success as the season progresses. The team’s recent record-breaking performances suggest a strong potential for continued success at the national level and throughout the outdoor season.
