chacabuco Shines at Buenos Aires Games: Early Medal Count & Mixed Results
Buenos Aires, Argentina – October 16, 2025 – Competition kicked off today at the 2025 Buenos Aires Games, with Chacabuco athletes delivering a strong showing across a diverse range of sports and cultural disciplines. The city secured its first medal of the year thanks to Jerónimo Di Piero, who claimed a silver medal in the PCD long jump.
Mayor Darío Golía praised Di Piero’s achievement, extending congratulations to the Paralympic School and its dedicated teachers, as well as the entire Chacabuco delegation. “The work of everyone involved in this 34th edition of the Games is truly commendable,” stated Golía.
Beyond Di Piero’s success, Chacabuco athletes enjoyed multiple victories. Rafael Stéfano and Melina Miranda each secured two wins in senior and youth chess, respectively. The city’s League of Legends esports team also dominated, achieving two victories and positioning themselves for a semifinal berth with further competition scheduled for Wednesday. A 2-0 win in senior football tennis against Tres de Febrero added to the positive momentum.
However, the day wasn’t without its challenges. Chacabuco’s free U-16 Futsal team fell to Magdalena 5-3, and the youth women’s basketball team suffered a 40-34 defeat against Derqui. Youth women’s volleyball also experienced a loss against La Plata, 2-1, while Mirko González was defeated 2-0 in under-16 badminton.
Despite these setbacks, Chacabuco continued to demonstrate resilience. The Women’s 5-a-side Soccer team secured a 2-1 victory, and the PCD Women’s Soccer team delivered a resounding win with a 12-2 scoreline. In Intellectual PCD Football +17,Chacabuco triumphed over Villegas 5-0,and the Under-18 Football Tennis team defeated Chivilcoy 2-0. A defeat was suffered in PCD Table Tennis during its opening match.
In the senior Sapo discipline, Alberto Mascione currently leads the standings, with Rosa Montenegro holding fifth place.The senior Mixed Truco team, tho, faced a defeat.
The Chacabuco delegation will continue to compete on Wednesday,October 16th,aiming to build on today’s successes and add to the growing medal count. The Games promise continued excitement and showcase the dedication and talent of athletes from across the region.
