By decree n°0785 of May 2, 2023, the transitional president appointed Saleh Deby Itno, former director general of customs and indirect duties, as Special Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic.
This appointment comes following Saleh Deby Itno was struck off the staff of the national police (rank of police controller general) at the start of the year, following disagreements with the transitional president Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.
Saleh Deby Itno had previously questioned the real causes of the assassination of his brother, Marshal of Chad Idriss Deby Itno. This had created a tense situation between him and his nephew. However, following a reconciliation with the Head of State, Saleh Deby Itno is back in the circles of power.
As Special Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Saleh Deby will certainly play a crucial role in political decision-making and in guiding the country.
