Charleroi: a show to raise awareness of the reception of children in care

7,000 children live away from their parents in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Among them, 4,000 live with host families. There is a shortage of around 600 host families in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Like everyone else, these children go to school but in the playground, not everyone really knows what that means and prejudices sometimes run rampant. Hence this initiative: an actress offers primary schools a show on the theme, a show followed by a moment of discussion with the pupils.

Several objectives are hidden behind this piece: to make the difference with adoption, to make children aware of the fairly frequent presence of children living in foster families in the classrooms and also to make these children ambassadors.
Pierre Buchkremer and Hugues Decaluwé attended this show along with a 5th grade class from the Ecole Fondamentale Libre Saint-Pierre de Wanfercée-Baulet in Fleurus. Their report can be found below.
