Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Impressive in Bahrain Test: Ferrari Team Leader Urges Caution

Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz set competitive times in the Bahrain test. Team leader Frederic Vasseur is cautiously optimistic, but urges people not to rush to conclusions.

Frédéric Vasseur: “In these tests our riders take the first positions, which is better than being behind, but in reality the results don’t mean anything. We don’t know what programs the others are using, we don’t know what engine settings they have.

The most important and interesting thing regarding these tests is that Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc got an idea of the car. They feel comfortable behind the wheel, and the car behaves much more stable than last year. This can be considered a good step forward for us.

At the end of last season we had already improved a lot, but this was not enough to fight Red Bull. At least we had a high qualifying pace, and in the race we were still inferior, although less than in Bahrain and Jeddah at the beginning of 2023. We are moving in the right direction, but I don’t know if the progress we’ve already made will be enough to fight Red Bull or not.

You always need to be careful with the prognosis following tests, so now you need to remain calm. The most important thing is to trust our drivers – they provide positive feedback, but we still have a lot to do in terms of car development. I think Red Bull still has the advantage. We will continue to attack and next week we will know where we stand.”
