London (AFP) – Chelsea has reached an agreement with Graham Potter to take over the task of supervising it, succeeding German Thomas Tuchel, who was suddenly dismissed from his position, according to several local media.
And it was reported Thursday that the new owners of the London club, the American group Todd Boley, agreed to pay the penalty clause in the contract linking Potter to Brighton, allowing them to negotiate the 47-year-old coach.
It is expected that the contract with the former coach of the Swedish Östersund and Swansea City, who is participating in the English leagues, will be concluded very soon in order to give him the opportunity to lead the team in the next league match on Saturday once morest neighbor Fulham.
And the British media reported that Chelsea had made preliminary contacts with Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain coach, and the Portuguese Sporting coach Ruben Amorim, in addition to discussing the possibility of contracting with French Zinedine Zidane and Northern Irish coach of Leicester City, Branden Rodgers.
Potter drew attention because of his attractive attacking style, which allowed Brighton to be fourth following six stages of the start of the new season of the Premier League, only two points behind leaders Arsenal and three behind Chelsea, sixth.
The Chelsea administration surprised everyone on Wednesday by announcing the dismissal of Tuchel due to poor results at the beginning of the new season, following the huge spending in the summer transfer market.
And a statement from the London club stated that it had “separated from coach Thomas Tuchel” following the 1-0 loss to Croatian hosts Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday in the opening group stage of the Champions League.
Tuchel arrived at Chelsea in January 2021, succeeding Frank Lampard, and led the team, just months later, to the Champions League title at the expense of Manchester City in the final.
Tuchel (49 years old) was linked to a contract with the club until 2024, but he left following the management spent regarding 300 million euros in the summer to sign new players such as Raheem Sterling, Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, French Wesley Fofuna and Senegalese Kalidou Coulibaly.
But the loss in Zagreb on Tuesday appears to have been fatal for the new American owner, Boyle.
