At around 4 p.m., the Chief Executive, Mr Lee Ka-chiu, accompanied by the Director-General of the Tourism Board, Mr Cheng Ding-yi, and the Director-General of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Mr Yeung Yun-hsiung, went to the market in Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei. First, they went to a stall selling olive oil and bought it for NT$10. A pack of airplane olives.
Chief Executive Li Jiachao: “We threw it upstairs when we were young. (It can no longer be done now). I must recall this tradition. (I am very happy to have more tourists). Let’s do it step by step, and do different businesses at different stages to see which one is the most popular. “
A large number of citizens gathered to watch and take photos with Li Jiachao.
Li Jiachao: “The atmosphere is lively, Temple Street has brought back many memories, and the Christmas atmosphere has been set up, and everyone is happy.”
Li Jiachao talked with different vendors, learned regarding recent business, including ethnic minority stalls, tried Turkish coffee, and finally bought a cup of coffee.
Li Jiachao: “It’s very rich and can help me work all night without stopping. How much is it? (29 yuan) 49 yuan? (It’s 29 yuan). I don’t need to ask for a renewal. This is to promote the economy.”
Turkish coffee stall owner Ahmad: “He paid too much and he was very friendly. They came to my stall and asked me if I had any problems. I said no. Then they tasted my coffee and asked me how my business was. I said fine.”
Li Jiachao stayed in Temple Street for regarding 20 minutes and then left. He went to the West Kowloon Cultural District and continued to visit the Christmas market. He pointed out that the government’s series of activities had increased the flow of people in the market, and he was happy to see people staying in Hong Kong to spend the long holidays.
Li Jiachao: “No matter how many Hong Kong residents go traveling, it’s good. There are more than seven million Hong Kong citizens who want to have different activities locally. They are a large consumer group. I am happy to see the economy revitalized, but what I am even happier to see is, Everyone can use the holidays to find ways to appreciate and enjoy themselves in different places in Hong Kong and spend their free time.”
He also called on different operators such as shopping malls and restaurants to continue to think regarding any gimmicks to improve local and tourist consumption.
