Around 7:30 am this Tuesday, May 17, a strong explosion inside a Santiago Metro car, in Chile. For its part, local media indicated that the event was due to an electrical failure of the system.
Meanwhile, the local firefighters reported that there were no injuries, although two women suffered blows during the stampede.

The first reports indicate that the fault would have occurred in a wagon at the Las Rejas station on line 1, at a time of high influx.
“A failure of electrical origin of which we still do not have clarity of what caused it and finally leads to the closure of the station. We are still not clear regarding the time, but we are working to recover the service as soon as possible,” Rubén Alvarado told the 24 Hours newscast.

Videos released show passengers trying to quickly exit the station.
For its part, the Biobio portal reported that two women suffered contusions from falls during the chaotic evacuation. “These are people aged 52 and 57 who suffered falls while running to leave the station and who were taken to different care centers,” they detailed.
After the incident, the transport service was suspended at the stations of San Pablo, Neptuno, Pajaritos, Las Rejas, Ecuador, San Alberto Hurtado and Universidad de Santiago, on Line 1. In addition, the Metropolitan Mobility Network is reinforcing the surface services for the affected areas.
