[인포스탁데일리=박정도 전문기자] BYD, a Chinese electric car company, has exceeded 1 million units in cumulative sales by May of this year.

On the 1st, BYD recorded 240,200 electric vehicle sales in May, up 109% from the same month last year. Monthly sales of 240,000 units are the highest ever.

In particular, cumulative sales from January to May of this year were 1,002,600 units, a 97.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

BYD is recording explosive growth in the electric vehicle market. Last year, BYD sold 1.86 million units, up 208% from the previous year.

It is becoming a foregone fact that it will surpass last year’s sales record by exceeding 1 million units sold by May of this year.

However, achieving BYD’s goal of 3 million units at the beginning of the year is not likely to be easy. Sales of Li Auto as well as BYD are increasing.

Rioto’s May sales surged 146% year-on-year to 28,300 units, overwhelming Nio (6,155 units) and Xiaopeng (7,506 units).

Meanwhile, the China Passenger Car Market Information Association (CPCA) estimated that electric vehicle sales in May would reach 580,000 units, up 10.5% from the previous month. In addition, the proportion of electric vehicles among new car sales is estimated at 33.5%.
