Zhou Chenming, a researcher at the Yuan Wang Institute of Military Science and Technology in Beijing, explained that before “the exercise was focused on the result: win or lose.” However, more attention is now being paid to “correct deficiencies and contribute to improvement”.

For his part, Sun Zhongping, a former instructor of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, said that the new training method could “improve general combat capabilities” as well as increase the level of professionalism of the soldiers.
