The fall is very hard for Samsung Electronics: the South Korean giant announced Thursday a drop of more than 95% in its operating profit during the second quarter. At only 668.5 billion won (only 473.6 million euros), this is its worst quarterly result for almost fifteen years.
Flagship of the Samsung group and by far its largest subsidiary, the company specializes in memory chips, present in all electronic and computer equipment. It is therefore directly affected by the global collapse in demand for smartphones and the stagnation in demand for PCs, the main recipients of these NAND (flash memory) and DRAM (dynamic random access memory) chips.
