Claquettes Market: Sustainable Shoes & Secondhand Corners in Nantes, France

Nantes, France – A growing trend towards sustainable fashion has arrived in Nantes with the expansion of Claquettes Market, a French platform dedicated to giving shoes a second life. The initiative, launched in November 2022 by Eram, Bocage, and Mellow Yellow, now features dedicated corners within existing Eram and Bocage stores in the city center.

The Claquettes Market corner within the Eram store, located at the intersection of Rue de Feltre and Rue Guépin, and another at Bocage on Rue d’Orléans, offer consumers a way to buy and sell pre-owned footwear. The concept aims to address growing consumer interest in circular economy models and reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

Claquettes Market was developed by the Eram Group, leveraging its expertise in footwear to create a marketplace for secondhand shoes. According to the Eram Group, the platform allows customers to drop off unwanted shoes at participating Eram, Bocage, or Mellow Yellow locations. The company then handles refurbishment, sales, and shipping, if necessary. Customers can also purchase reconditioned or secondhand shoes online at www.claquettesmarket.com.

Bocage, a brand under the Eram Group umbrella, has further integrated sustainability into its business model. In partnership with Claquettes Market, Bocage facilitates the resale of its own branded shoes that customers no longer wear. The company offers a 30% store credit bonus when customers sell their used Bocage shoes through the platform. This credit is valid for 18 months at Eram, Bocage, and Mellow Yellow boutiques.

The launch of Claquettes Market reflects a broader industry shift towards secondhand goods and innovative services. The Eram Group also offers shoe refurbishment and a shoe rental service through Atelier Bocage, where customers can exchange shoes every two months through a subscription model. These initiatives are part of a strategy to support customers in adopting more sustainable consumption patterns, according to the Eram Group.

Claquettes Market reports having given a second life to 25,000 pairs of shoes in 2023. The marketplace includes not only shoes from Eram, Bocage, and Mellow Yellow but also from brands like Faguo, Les Tropéziennes, TBS, and Caprice, which have partnered with Claquettes Market to offer refurbished options. The refurbishment process is carried out at La Manufacture, a French factory.

The platform currently operates 60 corners nationwide, including the two locations in Nantes. The concept aims to provide a convenient and accessible way for consumers to participate in the circular economy, offering a sustainable alternative to purchasing new shoes.
