Climate Activists Blockade German Airports: Delays in Düsseldorf, Hamburg Operations

2023-07-13 06:36:14

Activists from the Last Generation group started blockades at the German airports in Düsseldorf and Hamburg this morning. As a result, there were delays in flight operations in Düsseldorf. The airport asked passengers to keep an eye on the status of their flight.

Hamburg Airport ceased all flight operations at 6:10 a.m. As the airport announced, operations should only resume once it has been ensured that all protesters have been removed. The protest action in Hamburg also hit many vacationers – today 330 take-offs and landings with 50,000 passengers were planned.

The “Last Generation” declared that they were protesting ” once morest the government’s lack of planning and breaking the law in the climate crisis”. The activists gained access to the airport premises via the security fence. In Hamburg, several protesters got onto the runway by bike.

A fence had also been cut through at Düsseldorf Airport in order to get to the apron of the airfield on foot, which blocked the flight of the planes to the runway.
