A 31-year-old mountaineer led the way on Saturday around noon together with her 29-year-old climbing partner on a well-secured climbing route on the southern face of the Torsäule in the Hochkönig area. When she had slightly climbed the first rope length, the woman independently set two safeguards using so-called “friends”. When she briefly sat on the rope to rest and find the further route, the first safety device suddenly came loose and then the second safety device as well, causing the woman to fall regarding 10 meters until her safety rope stopped at the next safety device. The woman touched a ledge when she fell and severely injured her leg. Her climbing partner was then able to rope her down to the foot of the wall, where the rescue chain was set in motion.

According to the police report, the woman from Salzburg was rescued by the rescue helicopter “Martin1” and flown to the Schwarzach Clinic. According to the investigations of the alpine police, third-party faults and a technical defect in the equipment can be ruled out.
