WhatsApp it keeps adding new functions year after year. Its latest novelty is that of “temporary messages”, which were enabled after more than a year of testing in the application.
With this feature, messages are “self destroyed” after 7 days. You can choose to use it both in groups and in individual chats and it is totally optional.
Those who cannot find the temporary messages in their WhatsApp application may not have the latest version installed (Now available for Android and iOS).
How do temporary WhatsApp messages work?
If a user does not enter the application 7 days after receiving a message set as temporary, it will be automatically deleted. The only way to see it will be through cell phone notifications.
If the message was deleted but you are answered anyway, it will appear in chat as a “quoted message”.
The function also applies to messages that contain photos, videos and files, which will also disappear but will be saved in the corresponding folders if users have the automatic download function enabled.
The process of activating temporary WhatsApp messages is very simple:
- Choose contact
- Select the option “Temporary Messages”
- Click on “Activate”.
This procedure is used for individual chats, but in case you want to activate the WhatsApp temporary messages function in groups, only the administrator can do it.
Many users wonder what the new feature is for or how it could benefit them. The company’s response is that the change constitutes the possibility of a great saving of space in the application, as well as a security and privacy measure for those who choose it.
