We came close to disaster this Sunday, December 24, 2023, in Brakel (East Flanders). Violent gusts of wind brought down a Christmas tree late in the followingnoon. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. “The top of the tree landed once morest the entrance to Belfius’ office. Fortunately, there was no one near the tree when it fell, otherwise we might have experienced the same disastrous scenario as our neighbors of Oudenaarde”, declared mayor Stefaan Devleeschouwer at our colleagues at Het Nieuwsblad.
