Closure of Damoiseau Bakery: Challenges Faced by Artisans and Impact of Rising Costs

2023-12-26 16:25:00

Founded in 1875, the Damoiseau bakery, located in Andrimont, will not reach its 150th anniversary. The Disone establishment permanently closed its doors this Sunday, December 24. “Labor has become impossible to find or unpayable for anyone who wants to work as a craftsman,” reacts the owner of the establishment on Facebook. The increase in the cost of raw materials has also pushed artisans to go out of business. “It requires additional production that we are incapable of assuming to guarantee us a decent life.” There is that, but also the training of young people “which is clearly insufficient” and the fact that the State does not help artisans “who are only a machine for pumping money”.
