The Syndicate of Medicines Importers and Warehouse Owners in Lebanon issued a statement saying, “The news that is being circulated in some media and social media platforms indicates that a large part of the medicines in the Lebanese markets today are counterfeit medicines.”

He stressed, “All medicines imported through their affiliated companies are reliable, and they respect the highest quality standards, as they were imported, stored and distributed according to the principles and mechanisms in force, and the volume of imports has been increasing for a few months.”

The statement indicated, “Since the beginning of the Lebanese crisis and the interruption of some medicines in the market, counterfeit and smuggled medicines have already begun to exist in some areas, which were brought into Lebanon in an illegal and uncontrolled manner, either through organized smuggling through illegal channels, or through Personal smuggling through suitcases.

He added, “It does not deny the presence of some counterfeit medicines in the Lebanese markets and their danger to public safety, and it is working, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health and the Pharmacists Syndicate, to continue securing high-quality medicines, and importing them into Lebanon in a legal and official manner directly from manufacturers, in order to meet the needs of patients and Lebanese citizens.

The statement continued, “The import of reliable and usable medicines is on a steady increase due to the concerted efforts, and it will continue in order to combat the phenomenon of illegal and counterfeit medicine.”

He concluded by calling on citizens to “immediately communicate with the regulatory authorities to inquire regarding any suspicious or suspected drug, especially the Ministry of Health and the Pharmacists Syndicate.”
