In October, an anti-noise radar will be tested on Chaussée de Mons, in Anderlecht, report our colleagues from “La Libre”. The first prototype was installed in Schaerbeek. These devices measure the sound levels generated by cars and emit a signal as soon as the vehicle exceeds a certain number of decibels. For the moment, however, no sanctions are imposed for exceeding the decibel threshold.

The test phase will end at the end of this year, but the CD&V is calling for these anti-noise radars to be installed in Brussels in order to fine vehicles that are too noisy. In Paris, systematic sanctions by radars are already planned for 2024.

The aim of these radars, if they are installed in Brussels, would be to combat urban rodeos and strong noise pollution. A survey by the Brussels administration already indicated, in 2017, that Brussels residents were exposed to excessively high noise levels.
