They are formidable viruses for bacteria. They specifically target them, take control of them, use them to reproduce, and ultimately blow them up. These killer viruses, called phages, have the immense advantage of not being able to infect humans and thus prove to be potential treatments once morest bacterial infections. Known for more than 100 years, the use of this natural predation as a therapy, called phage therapy, was quickly set aside in Europe in favor of antibiotics. The massive use of these today limits their effectiveness phages are resurfacing on the benches of scientists.
