MADRID (AP) — Atletico Madrid beat Celta de Vigo 1-0 at home on Thursday in the Spanish league thanks to a 90th-minute goal from Argentine Julian Alvarez , getting ready for the upcoming derby with Real Madrid.
This is “Alanya” Alvarez’s second goal since joining Atletico Madrid from Manchester City this season.
Alvarez, who came on as a substitute in the 54th minute, scored from Antoine Griezmann’s cross to help his team win in Vigo. The result leaves Diego Simeone’s side two points behind second-placed Real Madrid ahead of Sunday’s match at Atletico’s Metropolitano Stadium.
Madrid beat Alaves 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday to move four points behind leaders Barcelona. Barcelona defeated Getafe 1-0 at home and achieved their seventh consecutive victory since the start of the season.
