The “Palestinian Joint Action Committee for National and Islamic Forces” in the Sidon region confirmed in a statement, “the commitment to consolidating the ceasefire” in the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon.

The authority also confirmed “the decision of the Central Action Authority to strengthen the joint force from the national and Islamic political frameworks to carry out the tasks assigned to it.”

Earlier on Friday, our correspondent reported that the pace of clashes in Ain al-Hilweh camp had decreased since seven o’clock in the evening local time.

Clashes renewed in the camp earlier on Friday, as heavy gunfire and shelling resulted in the injury of 20 people and prompted the residents of the camp and the surrounding area to flee.

Street battles had broken out for several days in the Ain al-Hilweh camp between the Fatah movement led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Islamic groups following Fatah accused the Islamists of killing one of its military generals on July 30.

These street battles left at least 13 dead and dozens wounded, and forced hundreds to flee their homes.
