The video has gone viral on social media, but its provenance remains undetermined. On the images filmed by passers-by, the N-VA deputy Theo Francken seems under the influence of alcohol and urinates in a planter located in the middle of the boulevard Emile Jacqmain, in the center of Brussels, in the middle of passers-by. The video also shows him at a sidewalk cafe, clumsily holding on to his chair while having a drink, before getting up and throwing the chair away.

Questioned by the Flemish daily Het Laatste Niews this Saturday August 26, 2023, the deputy admitted that it was indeed him on the video. Theo Francken said he had “an overly drunken evening, following a heavy and stressful period”.
“Stupid behavior”
He admits to having had “a stupid behavior”, judging the images “embarrassing”. “I don’t want to condone what I did, but at the end of the day, I’m just a human being,” he added.
He faces a fine of 350 euros
The police were not yet aware of the video, but will look into the file, assures Het Laatste Nieuws. Theo Francken risks a fine of 350 euros.
