Mired for weeks in a controversy following his racist remarks towards the Roma, the president of the Flemish socialists, Conner Rousseau, announced Friday evening his resignation with immediate effect from the presidency of his party, Vooruit.
“The hustle and bustle around me distracts too much from the essential and what Vooruit represents“, commented Mr. Rousseau during a press conference held at the end of an extraordinary office of his party.
“My person cannot hinder the challenges of our party“, he added.
