WORLD: Ms. Marin, did we consider ourselves invulnerable before the pandemic?
Claire Marin: We have had illusions about the power that science, technology and medicine have. Even before the epidemic, it amazed me again and again when people asked: “But are we really not in a position to cure this disease?” As if we were living, at least in rich, progressive countries, in a world where medicine Could perform miracles, almost in a divine way. All of a sudden we find out that we are actually alive and therefore there is always the risk of actually dying. We tend to forget that because of the sheer faith in medicine.
WORLD: Will the coronavirus change our relationship with diseases and make us more aware of how vulnerable we are?
