A good omen in the race for the European Film Prize and the Oscar abroad: Marie Kreutzer’s “Corsage” was awarded “Best Film” at the BFI London Film Festival on Sunday. The unusual portrait of Sisi prevailed in the main competition once morest seven strong competitors, including the political thriller “Argentina, 1985” by Santiago Mitre, which recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and the Canadian youth film “Brother” by Clement Virgo.
“Corsage” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May. In the historical drama, the Austrian empress is portrayed around her 40th birthday. The European co-production is also part of the European Film Awards 2022, which will be presented in Reykjavik on December 10th. Austria’s “Corsage” was also nominated for the best foreign language film at the most prestigious film prize, the Oscars.
